TREBLINKA PROJECT                                                                                                                    

work in progress started in 2004. Oil paintings. 130 x 195 cm.

Once a year I go to Treblinka, the place where was located a death camp during the Second World War. I photograph the entrance to the village of Treblinka, then I paint a picture based on this photography.

 

"This art is about what has been lost, about the inability of memory and artifacts to re-create what has been lost. But it is also about a never-ending human struggle to attempt that re-creation, against all the odds."

Une fois par an je me rends à Treblinka, où se trouvait un camp de la mort pendant la seconde guerre mondiale. Je photographie l'entrée du village de Treblinka, puis à partir de cette photo je peins un tableau.

 

"Il s'agit ici d'un art sur ce que nous avons perdu, sur la volatilité de la mémoire et des objets qui peuvent la soutenir. Il traite aussi de la pérennité du combat humain pour préserver le phénomène de l'art lui-même, pour préserver l'effort de la création malgré tout."
